Immediate Denture

An immediate denture is a denture which is designed to be fitted into place as soon as teeth are extracted. Immediate denture can be partial or full depending on the needs of the patient. The biggest advantage may be an aesthetic one: with an immediate denture, the patient never needs to walk around with no teeth.

After the extraction, the denture is immediately placed and checked for the fit. Wearing a denture actually reduces swelling and pain for the patient post extraction. It is important to understand that the denture should not be taken out within the first 24 hours—after this period, the denture should be taken out for cleaning only.

After a period of time, with the healing in progress, the patient must return to the dentist to examine the fit or perform a reline.
